HELP ST LUKE’S RAISE MUCH NEEDED FUNDING
St Luke’s Hospice is a local charity that provides free specialist end of life care to people in Harrow and Brent. The hospice relies on the generosity of local people for over two thirds of its funding.
People at the end of their lives are cared for in a place of their choice; this could be in in their own home, in the 12 bed In-Patient Unit (IPU) at the hospice, or at the Woodgrange Day Centre. Last year St Luke’s Hospice provided free end of life care to 1,628 people in Harrow and Brent.
Patients and their families are supported by 178 staff and 890 volunteers. Volunteers help in the shops, office and provide the 24/7 cover for reception so that families of patients can visit any time they wish. The hospice ethos means that patients are looked after at all levels with an in-house kitchen making meals for all requests, beautiful tranquil gardens for patients to enjoy, and the dedicated medical and nursing teams supporting patients in IPU.
Patients at The Woodgrange Day centre are offered services including counselling, socialising, meditation, arts, physiotherapy, complementary therapy and more.
The Hospice at Home team provides care and support to end of life patients and their families in their own home. Sadly, the NHS does not fund any of the work that St Luke’s Hospice do with care homes. Did you know over 45% of emergency hospital admissions from care homes are distressing and avoidable? Support is urgently needed so that expert nurses can help people in care homes receive the complete care they need in the place they call home.
